Our Story
Where good fortune begins: in the soil, the seasons and the people who bring Bahati Artisan Fibre Co. to life.
The Origins of Good Fortune
Bahati Artisan Fibre Co. began with a calling; a quiet pull toward the land, toward a life shaped by animals, seasons and the rhythms of nature. What started as a humble family farm in Potchefstroom has grown into a place of purpose: a space where fibres flourish, skills are honed and prosperity is cultivated with intention.
Our name, Bahati, means good fortune.
Not the loud kind.
Not the fleeting kind.
But the kind that grows slowly through care, collaboration and the work of honest hands.
From our first 100 goats to the nearly 900 we care for today; every step of our journey has been grounded in integrity. We tend to the land. We nurture our animals. We honour the people and processes that help bring each fibre, each thread and each woven piece to life.
We believe that true prosperity is shared. It is built with community and it lasts when it’s rooted in the earth.
A Legacy Woven from the Land
Our farm is the heart of Bahati.
The soil that sustains our crops. The fields our goats roam. The fibre that grows in sunlight, not factories.
Every blanket, throw or woven piece begins here, with fibres shaped by nature, harvested with care and refined through generations of craft and agricultural knowledge. We work within a circular, collaborative economy, bringing together farmers, artisans, designers and young creators who represent the future of South African textiles. Through ethical farming and thoughtful production, we honour the land and uplift the people who depend on it.
This isn’t mass production. This is meaning made by hand.
Craft with Purpose, Community at Heart
Bahati’s story is also a story of opportunity. We partner with South African universities to give textile design students true fibre-to-fabric experience; from visiting the farm to developing design concepts that reflect the vibrancy of our region.
Our 12-month agricultural internship programme guides young farmers through hands-on training alongside our farm manager and in-house veterinarian. These emerging professionals learn how to raise animals ethically, care for land responsibly and build futures that honour both craft and community.
Bahati exists to uplift. To empower. To create pathways, not just products.
Our Promise
that feel like home.

At Bahati Artisan Fibre Co., we are building something lasting; something our children, our communities and our land can be proud of.
It's not just our slogan. It's our story.
